Trump Splinters His Base
Trump wins when voters think he can impose order on chaos. He loses when he creates chaos where there was none.
I just posted this yesterday for Political Wire members, but I wanted to share it with you.

President Trump has veered loudly and proudly into uncharted territory in his second term. He’s throwing everything he has against the wall.
But in the process, he’s splintering his own coalition.
He can still count on his base — roughly a third of the country that will never leave him. But he’s losing the other 15 to 20% that got him re-elected.
For most of his two terms, his job approval hovered in the mid-40s. Now it’s slipping into the low-40s, even the high-30s, in more and more polls.
And aside from immigration and crime, he’s underwater on nearly every major issue: tariffs, the cost of living, health care, and even national security.
As I wrote earlier, his vaccine stance is far outside the mainstream.
Confidence in his handling of policy is eroding even faster than his overall approval rating.
As Chuck Todd put it: Trump’s political career has always been about chaos. He wins when voters think he can impose order on it. He loses when he creates chaos where there was none.
Right now, he’s sowing chaos for the vast majority of Americans.

the 'rump has cut into needful food, healthcare, and more to 'save US money", and then he has a military parade, a birthday bash and, now, a new ballroom to be constructed. All that money could have been spent on veterans' needs such as housing, on food for children. pooh
